The Shower Curtain Conundrum

We moved into our new home back in late May. The hallway bathroom was to be shared by a girl and a boy AND it's also the guest bathroom. We downsized from a house where everyone had their respective water closets, including the guests. It was easy, until it came time to clean bathrooms! So, the question arose, how to decorate this 1970s bathroom to be shared by a girl, a boy AND guests. Additionally, we were so exhausted fixing up the old house that removing the hideous yellow wallpaper wasn't an option, yet. So, we had to work with the ugly gold fixtures and yellow wallpaper too. On the positive side, it has this really cool antique looking chandelier and the original bathtub knobs have a lot of character.

With limited amounts of energy, I made it my mission whenever I was at a store with bath items to take a look. I looked everywhere. Repeatedly. Probably a dozen times. Each time, there were so many nice choices. I became totally overwhelmed and left empty handed. This may be a byproduct of the MS. Or not. Either way, it was annoying!

Last night, I came up with a solution. My 13 year old is the most decisive person on the planet. I would kidnap him and make him go to the bath section of Target to pick a shower curtain. Whatever curtain he chose would be THE curtain and we would buy the accessories to bring it all together. I was prepared to accept his choice, and blame it on him. We went to the bath section and true to his character he went straight to the first section of curtains and said this is the one. Don't you want to look around some more? No, this is it. Um, okay, I like that one. But for the sake of smart shopping let's look at the others. As we made the obligatory tour of shower curtains he would say "no, too girlie," "no, too fancy," "no, that just doesn't work," etc. We made our way back to the first curtain, put it in the cart and went to find some matching bath items.

It's really just right. The picture doesn't do it justice. It has a lovely blue design with a hint of teal that goes nicely next to the tacky yellow walls.

I LOVE my son's decisiveness. I may start renting him out! Any bidders?

  1. If only we could be so certain as a 13 year old. I think someday I will become that certain, maybe when I know more, or get smarter, or whenever. But we are never as sure of our thoughts as we are when we are 13. I wouldn't go back for anything, but now I know where I can rent a 13 year old - this year.
